Menu is one of the most important artifact for restaurant to increase their sales. A good menu will definitely lead to more orders. If you are not hiring a professional designer to design your menu then your best bet is using an online menu creation tool. I have been experimenting a lot these days with restaurant menu designs(though more so on the mobile apps menu design side) so writing a review of the 3 best menu design tools I could find.

Imenupro is one of the oldest menu design tool and also the most matured. They offer about a 100 menu styles and their user interface is really simple to use with drag & drop and dynamic layouts. The menus are Responsive(though there was scope of improvement here) and can automatically sync with your website and Facebook menus. They also have a desktop app. Imenupro is good for average users who need simple menus and are not looking for an out of box custom design. The pricing is little steep though@15/per month.

Canva is the newest entry to the menu design field but it is growing by leaps and bounds. Canva got a $3 million seed funding in 2013 and has guy Kawasaki on board as their chief evangelist. Canva is not just a menu design tool, it is all things design and comes with all bells and whistles, there is an iPad app also for canva.

If you need an advanced tool that will help you create an amazing, out of the way custom design for your menu then canva is the right choice for you. You have limitless choice of graphics and designs from canva marketplace. Canva is free to use but majority of designs and graphics are paid.

Webstaurant store is the only tool from the three which is completely free to use. The only catch is that they try to sell their menu addons like menu covers. The tool is standard one with all the editing features expected in a menu design tool. It is also simple to use however you can’t publish and host on the web directly. The tool I also not completely Responsive and I had a difficult time using it on my iPad. The menu designs are also average. This tool is recommended for users who are bootstrapped and have limited use for the tool and menu.
